Kriss Trigger Mod... A Better Solution Empty Kriss Trigger Mod... A Better Solution

Post by LukeG Tue Jun 25, 2013 7:04 pm

I've owned my Kriss Vector 16" for about a year now and just submitted paperwork on a new SBR gun. I absolutely love this gun and it is really like nothing else. The only issue that keeps frustrating me is the heavy trigger that was designed for a military/LE fully automatic weapon. The trigger that comes on the gun was not made for semi-auto target shooting and it is very apparent. I think i have seen it measured at 9lbs, and whatever it is is too much.

I tried the sanding method on here (didn't do much) and even removed one of the trigger control springs only to have failure to fires every four rounds or so. The trigger was lighter, but that just sucks. So after almost a year of dealing with ftf's or a crappy trigger I got a suggestion from a friend and it worked amazingly well!

Why the semi-auto variant of the gun is not shipped with this very simple mod in place I have no idea, but this should solve most people's trigger woes as it did mine.

Per the instructions on here, get the trigger control group out of the gun. See those two big fat pins above the trigger? Remove the one in the front (closest to the barrel), it will just fall out usually. Now reassemble. The End.

Yup, that's it. Enjoy your new and improved trigger the way it should have been.

Interesting. I will have to try this. I dont mind the trigger as it is now. But perhaps a lighter trigger will help minimize movement on the gun and I can shoot more accurately while going faster.  I can hammer the trigger pretty well, but accuracy is a sacrifice.

How does this improve the pull? Mechanically speaking. Very interested. Thanks!

Makes it more of a two stage with a light/soft front end and crisp break. Pleasantly surprised by this!

Someone with more experience than myself suggested I try it. Apparently that person had done this before, and it worked. I've been looking for a better trigger solution everywhere and so far this is the best. Figured I would post it online for the rest of you guys.

I meant, how is this accomplished? Is it just eliminating a friction point?

A better question is: "what is the mechanical/functional purpose of that front pin"? If the designers thought it should be there, then what does it do and what will it "not do" when removed.

Hey guys!
Victoria, from KRISS, here!
I just wanted to let you guys know that we do not recommend taking out that pin. It is there to keep the trigger stable and you could have issues with the trigger resetting. Please, just keep this in mind with the removal.

Thanks Victoria. That is what I was looking for, an answer someone who actually works at KRISS. I am going to live with the trigger as is.

Well, since you're here Victoria, can you pass along any Official helpful suggestions for making the trigger pull lighter and smoother? Smile

Okay, so apparently this trigger mod is not endorsed by Kriss. Is anyone surprised? Of course they won't endorse a modification to their product they could be liable for.

Anyways, went to the range today and the trigger mod performed flawless through 50 rounds. No reset issues, no failure to fires, nothing but a nice trigger on a great gun.

Try it or not, but I promise you will be pleased by the simple mod and I'm am definitely keeping the gun this way.

Cheers!

well if Kriss says that you shouldn't do it, and you do, won't you be liable for any type of problem that can happen after the fact?

I'm not going to do it, I don't need the problems some where down the line.

LukeG, just by posting your post you just set yourself up for a problem, if it ever happens.....

When you say it improves the trigger, please explain!

@Jedi380
Not too much info available, but continue to dry fire the hammer, and it will smooth out any burrs along the trigger group.
@LukeG
afponiky is right. We are no longer liable for anything that happens to the gun, you voided out your warranty when you took the fire control group out and took parts off of it. I'm not saying you shouldn't do that because we are liable, I'm saying you shouldn't do that, because it can cause issues in the weapon.

Totally understand about the warranty and I'm okay with that. I don't see any issues that may arise from this, and if any do I'll fix it and go from there. Great gun, just needed some work on the trigger and this did the trick for me.

After shooting it with the pin out, I can only assume it removed a fairly large friction point that the trigger group slides on. It is a night and day difference, and I'll check in every few hundred rounds for an update.

LukeG: Keep us informed to how your modified trigger holds up in the future.

Victoria: How much would a replacement Fire Control Group and Firing Pin cost if they were somehow damaged, or I just wanted to have backups.

Interesting!  I will follow this thread Luke for your updates.  Thanks for posting.

P.S. I am a pretty by the book guy so if Kriss is not recommending it I will probably not do it but it is good info to know and I am always looking to improve my weapons.

Another few hundred rounds and still going strong. Sent my paperwork in for a Silencerco Osprey and a new factory SBR Kriss. Fingers crossed it doesn't take a year to get the tax stamps :P
