First outing with my Kriss and odd brass

Post by RobbAllen on Mon Feb 27, 2012 5:30 pm

Anyone else's brass look like this?

Trying to figure out if this is normal for the KRISS or if there's something I might need to look at.

Thanks,

What ammo are you using? To be honest, I have never looked at my brass.

My Keltec Sub2000 in 40S&W does some weird stuff and make notches into the brass. But Im not sure that is what is happening here.

It would be good to know the following to help look into the issue:

Ammunition Make
Ammunition Model
KRISS Vector Model
KRISS Vector Manufacture Date

I've also sent an email to our engineering dept. to see what they have to say. Their first question will be the above data points so I thought I would try and get ahead of the curve.

Thanks,

PMC Bronze is the ammo. I kept the box so I'll have to look at the lot when I get home.

KRISS Vector CRB/SO, and again, I'll have to make it home to get any more pointers on manufacture date. I would assume it's recent.

If the date is uncertain, a quick call to KRISS USA with your serial will get the definitive answer. They may also be interested in seeing the pictures.

I'd also like to THANK the folks at PNW Arms for (1) being here and (2) willing to take a look and give opinions based on their industry experiences. cheers

Initial from one of our engineers:

Unless he was shooting next to a concrete wall, looks like it is getting mangled up during ejection – I don’t recall ever seeing anything like that.
The ammo could be way too hot or too slow for the gun.
Try any of the KRISS recommended brands and see if the same thing happens.

Not a concrete wall, but a plastic coated divider at the range.

I was giggling too hard to really pay attention to where the brass was flying

Yep, they sure are a lot of fun!

You can try squeezing off a few rounds without barriers to see if that makes a difference. If not, it is most likely due to the velocity and pressure of the round. The KRISS is a bit picky when it comes to chewing ammo.

Chewed up brass

Post by ASD413 on Mon Apr 02, 2012 11:16 pm

My brass comes out looking worse than that. I'm not sure what the issue is. the gun shoots fine and doesn't jam. I don't reload so I guess until the gun stops firing, I'll let it eat.

The brass from my SDP looks the same as that. I pickup and inspect all my brass because I roll my own. All my 45 brass looks like that and still runs through the reloading dies and still shoots fine afterward. I loaded rounds so light they almost don't cycle the gun and I've loaded upto max reccomended charges and they all look like that after firing. The top of my ejection port is pretty dinged up from the brass bouncing off it so I'm assuming that's where the neck dents are coming from.

I have shot the PMC bronze ammo through mine and all the brass looks like that. After running the brass through my re size and decaping die on my 650 Dillon the brass comes out perfectly round. I think that when you watch youtube videos of people shooting the kriss the gun does not have consistent ejection angle. I assume the case when its ejected since it has to fly up then out gets deformed during that process.

Wow that ejection port really takes a beating! I noticed a few of those dings on my brand new gun, no doubt from the test firing. I can definitely see myself painting that area every so often as I'm very particular about maintaining NIB appearance of my weapons. Maybe an equally particular owner will mod up some sort of protection plate that doesn't involve paint that's easily dinged/chipped.

My brass looks the same way also.

I'll have to take notes as to what type I'm shooting next time.

It doesn't seem to matter though as to brand, speed, what ever, they all look beat up just like your pictures.

I'll have to take a look at my weapon and see if I have the same marks.

Just shot my CRB for the first time today....what a blast. Today's goal was to get myself familiar with the feel of the firearm and zero in my new Eotech XPS2. I fired roughly 75 rounds no problems at all...used Speer Lawman the whole time. I also had not 1 problem with my glock 13 rnd mag, or my 25 rnd Kriss mag. A perfect debut for me with this gun! Looking forward to shooting it again and zeroing my new Crimson Trace MVF 515 when it comes on Tuesday. However, on my brass, I did notice the familiar flat spot at the edge of most of the ejected brass where it apparetnly hits the ejection port.

Good to know that it is normal. Now all I need to fix is that that pesky last round that does not eject it just sits there.

update (changed ammo no more pesky last round!) my Kriss is perfect now.
