Hello from a soon to be SDP owner

Post by csecrist on Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:25 pm

As of tmoro evening, based on the UPS tracking #, I'll be leaving my FFL with my new Kriss SDP! Pretty damn excited about it. I've been spying on here over the last couple weeks. And figured I'd better join, so I could pick all of your brains and learn more about this weapon. Thanks in advance for any info/help you can throw my way. Later

Have got my SDP in hand, hopefully get to the range Sat to run some ammo thru this thing to see if it's gonna have any cycling issues? I'll keep you guys posted

Sounds great! Be sure to clean & lube, then check out some of the ammo threads if you have not already... some things run cleaner than others too (ex. PNW Arms' KRISS-specific rounds).

http://www.krisstalk.com/t94-anybody-try-pnw-arms-ammo

The KRISS USA site is down for their facelift at the moment... but they specify ammo that is known to work with the Vector. (Winchester White Box or "WWB" is no longer on that list, and reloads are a no-go.)

Cool, I want to try just some plain Jane Federal Champion. I run this in all my Glocks, HK and has been ultra reliable in those. Definitely not the cleanest running stuff, but I don't mind cleaning as long as it goes "BANG" when the trigger is pulled. Any lube suggestions?

I use weaponshield. But i think I am too stingy on the lube.

I'm right there with you, I usually put a light coat of CLP after using it to do my scrubbing with it. That's what we used 20+yrs ago in the Marine Corps. Just figured there might be something better now a days? Especially with so much talk about these Vectors having trouble cycling.

I havent tried it, but a friend recommended Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil. AR-15.com has a few believers. If you think about it, if it is good enough for expensive sports cars, its good enough for a $2k gun.

That sounds pretty sensible and cheap to boot! A quart of that should last damn near forever! Thanks

I wouldn't really expect cycling issues with a SDP. That product is new enough to have "the latest" refinements to the weapon. I also run the Federal Champion w/out a problem, even though it's not on the "approved" list. The Vector is known to run best when it's been maintained (cleaned & lubed). CLP should be just fine. I've been using "Shooter's Choice FP-10" and trace amounts of "Magnalube-G" on my Vector and other firearms. The FP-10 has somewhat of a cinnamon smell to it, which is also a small "plus" to me. For the Magnalube-G, by trace I mean if you can see "green" you have too much on. (It's a green colored PTFE grease.) I don't think there is any one magic product out there and there are a TON of products to choose from. WeaponShield, FrogLube, etc. etc. etc. I have also heard of folks using fully synthetic motor oils. In the small amounts we are talking about just about anything designed to slick metal will get the job done. Bottom line: if you are cleaning and lubing it with whatever works for you, I'd say you are good 2 go. I think it's the folks that expect to run a Vector "dirty" for extended periods that will have some speed bumps. I suspect most folks buying a Vector (not inexpensive) have a habit of cleaning their gear after each range trip... maybe two with a quick wipe down between sessions. How many rounds is that in a trip? The KRISS USA manual calls for some cleaning at the 500-round mark. I'm good with that.

I actually was testing out my Preban square notch mag and had my first jam. I didnt clean my KRISS but I only shot like 20 rounds sunday. When i closed the bolt, the round would jam at the feed ramp.

Time to clean up the gun so i can do some testing this weekend alongside my KRISS shotgun hehe.

Yep... Sounds more like the pre-ban magazine than the round count is the problem. KRISS USA had a blurb about what G21 magazine revs were known to be good, but that website facelift is dragging on... making it hard to find that nugget at the moment. Mad

(Nice KSG by the way)

Sorry for the confusion. It is my little joke. I recently got my KSG. Keltec Shotgun. My KRISS vector has prototype Magpul KRISS sights. So my original KRISS BUIS are now on my KSG. So I call it KRISS Shotgun. As a joke.

There was a prototype 12 gauge shotgun that KRISS Arms was working on. But like many projects it was shelved.

Here is a picture of it behind the Carbine prototype.

Notice they are rockin' the Magpul MBUS in some of the glamour shots too.

there are actual shotgun bullets in 45 acp that you can put in your kriss but I don't know if it's okay for the kriss

Man that sucks! I was thinkn you had a inside hook up with KRISS on some prototype. How do you like that KSG? I almost jumped on one and decided to wait for the price to drop.

Ok, I got it over to the range today. First off I ran three different types of ammo, including Federal Champion, PMC Bronze and Independence(had to pickup an extra box at the range). Anyway, performed flawlessly as far as loading, cycling properly, etc.. The only problem was the difference between my point of aim and the point of impact. I'm talking 8 inches low relatively speaking. I started really close around 10m or so. And out to around 30m, at that distance it was the same. I was using 8" multi-color targets and it was tearing 2" holes consistently, just about 8" low? Couldn't get the front sight to move and didn't have a front sight tool or anything small enough to get in there. So moved my POA up and was tearing those same holes, except near the center. Also brought along an EOTech Holo sight and couldn't get it to adjust at all and it was co-witnessed with the front sight on my POF M4? I felt like I was losing my mind! Anyway gonna get back over there in a couple days, with a front sight tool and give it another shot.

I guess I was surprised that the sights were so far off vertically, right out of the box? Not sure what if any zeroing happens at TDI if any? Maybe they just pull the trigger and if it goes bang it goes out the door . . .
