SHORT OR LONG?? NEED HELP!!! Empty SHORT OR LONG?? NEED HELP!!!

Post by TheJarvler Thu Apr 12, 2012 4:00 pm

Hey guys, recently stumbled upon the Kriss Super V page on facebook and he was kind enough to direct me to the forum here. i have a sort of dilemma and ANY help you guys can give me would be GREATLY appreciated. I have a Kriss Carbine (18.6" barrel) on layaway about half payed for but recently found out that we ARE able to get the 5.5" barrel in canada, it is just "restricted". which is fine as i have my Restricted Firearms License. up until very recently all we could get up here was the "Carbine" model with the long barrel. now i have no idea what to do. i kind of like the look of the longer barrel but in a home defense or CQB situation it would Definitly get in the way. is there a big difference in accuracy and feel between the two models? at longer distances does it make that much of a difference? i realize the ballistics of the .45 ACP are somewhat limited in that regard but if i can pick off zombies at 100yds in stead of 50 or 25 i would much rather do that (wouldnt want to risk getting a bite;). and to top it all off there is the K10 coming out suposedly in "late summer". do i just hold out and wait for the new model? AAAHHHHH!! So confused!?!? thank you for your time and hope to hear from you all soon:)

Hey Justin, KRISS Super V FB would be me. You will find some great info here.

Can you clarify what the 5.5" barrel version you are talking about? Is it the true SBR (Short Barrel Rifle) or are you talking about the SDP (Pistol)? Basically the SBR without the stock.

One thing you need to learn is that there is no singular magical gun that can do both. Best is to get specific guns to fill a certain role.

By all means experiment and push the boundaries of firearms but there are some finite things one can do with certain firearms. Like you will never be shooting 200 yds with a pistol of shotgun. You could try but would it be effective?

Not that I havent tried engaging steel at 200 yds with the KRISS Carbine. But that was for fun. Not because I had to. I have an AR-15 for that.

Anyway analyze your needs and usage of this weapon system. Will there be restrictions on where you can use the 5.5" vs the carbine? I know moving to NY state stopped my urge to chop the barrel off. I would be very illegal and NO one is allowed SBR except maybe LEO and that is rare. So know your needs and limitations of having either version.

well thank you again Solscud007.

i might just hold off for now and see what becomes available to us in the near future. i have been doing lots of research and although i do like the look of the longer barrel i think that 18.6 inches is just a little too much. i beleive what you have is the 16" barrel correct? its amazing how much 2.6 inches can make in the look and feel of the weapon. i have been studying MANY pictures and articles and i have come to the conclusion that unless it was the SMG(fully auto) platform, that a carbine should have a longer barrel. just makes more sense to me. seeing as how i cant spray 30 rounds at a time(every handgun Mag up here is limited to 10 rounds) i would opt for better acuracy. and seing as how i will NEVER own a fully auto version i think i like the longer barrel better for what i will be using it for. the accuracy tests you told me to look at tell the story right there. not a HUGE difference, but definitly a difference. the pictures i have found of the 18.6 inch barrel just look akward and a little goofy to me. i think a happy medium of like 14" would be perfect, but unfortunatly i dont think that is an option. i might have to just email Kriss and see what they can tell me. again thanks for your time and help.
