Removing the Left Hand Barrel Thread Protector!

Post by cpu77 on Sat Jun 16, 2012 5:55 pm

I know the darn thing is righty loosy and left tighty:) I just cant get it to budge! I even tried vice grips. Of course I used rags. Anyone else have this issue? My new Osprey can shipped today and I want to be ready on Tuesday!

Thanks
Ralph

Hmm. Perhaps it is loctited on? Try heating it up with a torch. count 10 Mississippi and then go at it with the pliers. Or try calling KRISS ARMS.

Yes, anybody that makes one to fit HK pistols (.45ACP, 16x1 LH pitch) will work. Same threading. Here is just one example:

OK, a second example:

One exception is the HK "MK23" (Mark 23) pistol. The threading is different.

I'd be interested in this answer too. Giving KRISS USA a call and ask about your exact SDP serial, was it built for a particular state compliance or what since the thread protector is not simply coming off as hand tight. Maybe it was intended for one state and made its way over to your LGS from a distributor that didn't know the difference? If a barrel is threaded and the thread protector is factory installed "permanently", I believe it is compliant to their regulation.

One example: California

Mine was not loctited on, but was really stuck on there. It didn't help that I forgot it was reverse threaded and really cranked it on there trying to get it off....

So, I got mine off by taking some some pliers to the thread protector. Took some elbow grease, but wasn't too bad. That being said, I'm somewhat stronger than most, so not bad for me isn't the same for everyone.

Well, i mean, threaded left hand as opposed to right hand which is what I'm used to for everything but HK

Of course that would be the case because my osprey has the connector for my mark 23 guess I get to buy one more thread thing for it Sad
