Barrel Trunnion

Post by Solscud007 on Wed Jun 20, 2012 1:11 pm

So, some people were wondering if you can swap out barrels. Well some people here have first hand experience that it is near impossible.

Here is a video and a brief snapshot of what looks like how the trunnion is installed/assembled. Go to 36 secs into the video.

My friend over at STRIKEMARK says that this process is called "Swaging"

So to remove the barrel, a person would have to drill out the
Pins that were swagged and then replaced

Yep, drill out swage pins and then the barrel pin needs to be pressed out of the barrel and lastly the barrel would need to be pressed from the trunnion.

But the question is why would anyone need to or want to remove the barrel?

It comes up when members have asked about doing a CRB to SBR conversion themselves rather than sending it to KRISS USA. The topic you posted about re-threading was interesting to have somebody make a fixture. Wonder if that same guy could do CRBs to SBRs with a similar, if not the same, fixture.

My preference would be to have KRISS USA do the CRB to SBR conversion, especially if it is an older CRB. I'd rather have a new barrel in the latest diameter specs with the latest features/fixes along the way (contour, chrome lined, etc.) that KRISS USA has sorted out. I'd also venture a guess that they might go through the whole Vector at the same time to keep you current.

Yup, he can. Its basic machine work. If he can thread a barrel he can cut/crown and rethread it just the same. A jig is a jig and a lathe is a lathe.

Thats why he made the jig was to provide the service to us. He used my gun as a beta tester for it and I can say that it is perfect. I actually shot about 200 rounds through my Kriss today with the suppressor that has .578 threads........ran great.
