Unusable "Zero Round" Magazine?! Empty Unusable "Zero Round" Magazine?!

Post by Jedi380 Thu Mar 21, 2013 6:58 pm

Hi all,

Good News- I found and bought a Kriss SDP yesterday! (I live in OH, and bought the gun in OH as well.)

Bad News- It came with a "dummy" magazine?! wtf
It is apparently a "zero round" magazine. The Kriss I bought is a "California Edition", so it has (had!) the bullet button and came with this ... thing. It looks like a regular Glock 10-round mag., but has a plastic pin that goes through both sides of the magazine and through the follower. This pin was then melted down on both sides, leaving a large lump of plastic on both sides, just below the feed lips. IT IS COMPLETELY UNUSABLE AS IT IS NOW. Mad

I emailed Kriss yesterday, but haven't heard back yet. Any ideas what I'm supposed to do with this? I'm hoping Kriss can send me a replacement magazine that actually works, this one won't even go in because of the big, plastic lumps on both sides. It's a good thing I already have some 30-round mags, or I'd be holding a completely unusable gun right now...

WOW, good thing you said you had some mags. I was going to give you one, but now I don't have to!

Any way, PM me, I'm in Ohio also. If your close we can get together and shoot. I may have a place or two to do that!.................

Your not that far away.

I'm sure Kriss will make it right with you. They have been very good with issues no matter what you may hear.

I'll get a pic. I'm hoping Kriss will exchange for me with a working 13-rnd. mag...

As I understand it, a 10-rnd. mag IS legal in NY, but it's illegal to put in more than 7 rounds. Rolling Eyes

Yes and no. You can put 10 rds if you are at a range. I'll trade you a 13 rd for it.

Unusable "Zero Round" Magazine?! 20130322_095205_zpsb1e933fd

Thank you very much for the offer! I want to talk to Kriss before I do anything. If they send me a replacement, hopefully it would save either of us paying shipping. ;) If they can't/won't do anything with it, then I'll take you up on that offer.
I was not able to get the floorplate off, either, so I don't even know if it's possible to do anything with this... Suspect
I don't want to send you a paperweight for a good mag, ya know? ;)

California has some crazy laws. One way around them, especially for pistols not on the DOJ APPROVED LIST is the "Single Shot Exemption". The mag you have, blocks off the mag well and renders the weapon capable of only firing one round at a time. This is how people work around guns not on the California Roster of Handguns......... You are in possession of a weapon that never made it to the People's Republic of Kalifornistan! Make it a Freeman's gun! flag

That's great "in theory", but the globs of plastic block it from locking in to the gun. It is UNUSABLE, seriously. Not even for a single-shot. wtf

Have to say I am NOT pleased paying this much to get a completely non-functional mag... have not received a reply yet from Kriss to email or voice message.

That said- I just got back from the range. It works perfectly with the mags I do have! cheers Took me a bit to figure out the sights... I was "assuming" the rear sight was supposed to act as a peep sight. NOT! Using the rear post on top with the front post works much better!
Also working on the proper grip. Pulling forward with the front hand seemed to work better...? I'll keep working with it.
I also did some shooting with the sling. Using the laser and shooting from the hip with the sling actually worked pretty well! Definitely NOT politically-correct, I'm sure. Twisted Evil

Yep. ;)

I was shooting at 10-20 yards at an indoor range, mostly just to check fit and funtion. Now that I know it works, I'll get down to some more serious testing!

Okay, I talked to Kriss Customer Service today. She will check my serial number to find out if it's due for any updates.

I asked her if the magazine could be made functional, and she said no. Because the pin is drilled through the follower, the chances of making it usable are not too good. They don't exchange magazines for a CA model, either. Sad

They do have a good price for the 13-rounders, though. She's emailing me the price/parts list, and I'll probably get 2 for now. The shorter ones will be easier to use for benchrest and target work.

FYI: When I called the number in the manual for Kriss, it says to dial ext. 301 or 302. Both of those go straight to voicemail, and I did not get a reply from my message last week, or the email I sent them. This time I just pressed 1 for Customer Service, and she picked up right away. ;)

Patman- you mean the floorplate of the mag? I couldn't get that off, either... Sad

Edit: Sorry, I just saw your other post. I guess you've figured out the "bullet button" crap that CA requires. Mine just had a plastic piece over top of the mag-release button. I was able to use a small allen wrench to hold the mag-release down, then a thin screwdriver to just pop that plastic cover off toward the front of the gun. ;)

Sols- I'll try to get that in the mail tomorrow, sorry for the delay!

I saw a picture of the non functioning mags that someone made functional. They carefully ground off the melted, mushroomed heads of the plastic pins and punched them through the mag body. The followers have a hole through and through but that does not effect their function. I would try grinding off the pin heads since the mag already doesn't work in it's current form.

Jedi380 gave me the mag. And I missed MadDogDan's post but figured out the same thing.

Being in NY (behind enemy lines) I need 10 rd mags. So here is a comparison between a normal 10 rd mag and this blocked one.

I will shoot it this Sunday with my glock and maybe the KRISS. My friend is using my KRISS in the local match cause he doesnt have a pistol permit.

You're Welcome! Smile

Glad to see it's not just a paperweight any more. Between the two of us, we've "saved" a Kalifornia Edition Kriss and let it run like it should! cheers

Yep saved it from captivity and let it back out in the wild to roam free. Haha

I ground down the pin with my Dremel and it broke in two and the epoxi or whatever they used just popped right off. I replaced the follower with a new one and the only thing odd is the holes it left, but I am not worried as the Glock mags are pretty tough to break.
