Good timing for first NFA?

Post by Jedi380 on Thu Apr 11, 2013 10:41 am

Hi all. I like my SDP that I bought recently, but I'm already thinking about adding the stock and having my first-ever NFA item...

I'm wondering, though, with the current uncertain political climate, if now is a good time to get an NFA item? I'm "possibly" on some gov't list already anyway (aren't we all?), but I'm not sure if I want to be "officially" registered as having a "dangerous" weapon, know what I mean?

What are your opinions?

In case anyone asks, SBR and AOW are allowed here in OH. (So are suppressors!) ;)

Jedi380:

Definitely jump on the NFA bandwagon now while you can. I have 13 NFA items and just sent in my 14th to SBR my SDP. I guess I have been on the Gov's radar for a long time but I could care less. Every time you fill out a 4473 form to purchase a rifle or pistol you are flagged on "the list". What do you think happens when they call in a background check? They try and match your name to some list of bad guys. I highly doubt your information is destroyed after the check is done. Regardless of any new laws that may get signed your NFA items will most likely still be protected (you can still posses) since the law has not been changed since it was written in 1934. If new NFA items are prohibited then you will be screwed so you might as well get them now and be "grandfathered" in.

pure havoc:

What BATFE tells you on the phone as far as processing time for your forms is not necessarily true. My last Form1 sent in ten months ago took 64 days to get back to me "mailbox to mailbox". My shortest a few years ago was 21 days "M to M" and BATFE was telling people on the phone "six months". It is a crap shoot, you may be lucky and you may not. I have always sent my forms in on an LLC, not an individual or trust. Not sure that has anything to do with anything, it just is.
